Overview
Power Tools is a suite of Shopify applications used by merchants to manage and customise their stores.
The suite includes applications such as Filter Menu, which provides customisable collection filtering; Pricing Policy, which lets merchants create sales and apply discounts across products in bulk; and Trending Sort, which tracks product views and can automatically order collections by popularity, alongside a range of other Shopify tools.
I did not create Power Tools, but I have worked on the software professionally for over eight years as part of the development team.
My Work
My work has covered feature development, maintenance, automated testing and QA, and production support across the Power Tools applications.
A significant part of my role has also involved integrating Power Tools applications into merchant themes, debugging compatibility issues and customising implementations around individual store requirements.
Working in Production
Working on the same production software over many years means dealing with much more than the initial build.
It requires understanding existing implementation decisions, adding functionality without unnecessarily rebuilding systems, debugging real production issues, adapting to changes in Shopify, and responding to changing merchant requirements.
Technical Work
The applications span frontend storefront code, backend application logic, Shopify APIs and integrations with merchant themes.
My work has included developing and maintaining application features, adapting applications to Shopify platform and API changes, integrating app functionality into existing storefronts, debugging interactions with themes and other code, and maintaining automated test coverage.
