Overview
Speakeasy is a team communication application organised around topics rather than traditional channels. Each conversation has its own focused space for the relevant people, messages, files, calls and follow-up, providing an alternative to the channel-first structure used by platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams.
I worked on Speakeasy professionally for approximately a year as part of the development team, alongside my ongoing work on Power Tools.
My Work
My work focused primarily on the mobile web experience, including responsive layouts and custom mobile drawer interfaces for navigating the application.
I also contributed to testing and QA across the product and developed voice-note functionality during an internal development hackathon.
Voice Notes
The voice-note feature allows users to record audio directly within the application.
The browser implementation captures audio client-side and uses WebAssembly-based processing to transcode recordings to MP3 for use within the application.
Responsive Application Development
Speakeasy is a fairly complex application UI rather than a conventional responsive website. My work included adapting application layouts and navigation for smaller screens and building mobile-specific drawer interfaces where the desktop interaction model wasn't appropriate.
